The old ferry town Vordingborg had its heyday in the Middle Ages, when several of the Danish kings periodically lived here. The city’s most famous landmark is then also the ruins of the old Vordingborg Slot from 1364. What remains of this edifice today is Gåsetårnet – which is also Vordingborg landmark. In the original castle site there is also a much visited historical botanical garden. Moreover, you will find Denmark’s Borg Center (formerly Sydsjællands Museum) here – in two half-timbered houses, one from the 1700s and the other from the 1800s.
Today Vordingborg is otherwise a pleasant small town with an intimate downtown atmosphere – and on both sides of the city is fine and popular beaches.
