Puerto Montt is a port city located in the southern part of the elongated Chile and is the capital of the region of Los Lagos. The city belongs to the province of Llanquihue and is located on the west coast bordering the Pacific Ocean. Puerto Montt leads out into the bay Seno Reloncaví which is linked to Golfo de Ancud. The town was founded in 1853 and today the city is approximately 160 000 inhabitants here (2008).

Puerto Montt is marked by contrasts. The good climate creates a lush nature, while the city is located in a fjord and surrounded by snowy peaks. The area has several parks, including Alerce Andino National Park and Lahuen Nadi Natural Park. The city is known for the modern port and Puerto Angelmó is the country’s best and largest market for seafood.
