Pirmasens is often called “Skobyen” because it was a significant long shoemaking here. One of the city’s popular destinations is indeed the big skomuseet (Schuhmuseum Hauenstein). There are also several other interesting museums here – eg the new Dynamikum – a technical museum which was opened in 2008 in the premises of the former shoe factory Rheinburger.
