Ostrava belongs to region Moravia and located in eastern Czech. The town is located just at the confluence of the rivers Oder and Ostravice. It’s just 30 km to the Polish border in the east and nearly 60 km to the Slovenian border in the south. Ostrava is the third largest city in the country with a population of almost 340 000 (2009).

Ostrava been known for coal mines and just north of the city center is the Museum of Mining. For more information about the city’s history you can visit the Ostrava Museum located in the oldest building in town with an astronomical clock from the 1500s. In Sea Aquarium you can see activities that feed the largest piranhas, and the Ostrava City Zoo there are animals like tiger, camel, elephant and chimpanzee. Fairytale Ghost Cellar is a children’s attraction with 11 different rooms in 150 year old cellars.

Leoš Janáček Airport Ostrava is an international airport located about 20 km outside the city center.
