Prague lies to the northwest of the Czech Republic on the Vltava River. This river divides the city with several districts on each side, including the old town to the north on the east bank. Prague is the capital of the country and was also the capital of the old Czechoslovakia. With a population of over 1.2 million (2009), Prague the largest city in the Czech Republic. The earliest records of Prague are from 928.

Prague is known for its many bridges crossing the Vltava, and the most popular is the gothic Charles Bridge from the 1300s that is about 500 meters long. On the town square stands the medieval bell tower of the beautiful astronomical clock. Prague offers many museums, attractions and historic sites, as well as festivals such as Prague Spring International Music Festival.

Prague Airport, Prague Ruzyně Airport is the biggest airport in the country and is located about 10 km outside the city.
