Santa Fe de Bogota is the capital of Colombia, located in the northern part of Latin America. The capital is situated on a plateau in the middle of the country and is the third highest capital in the world. In 2009, the population of over 7.3 million, making Bogota to Colombia’s largest city.

The town was built in the 1500s and there are several historic buildings that are worth a visit. Plaza de Bolivar is the most central square in Bogota and is located in the historic district of La Candelaria. Here one can also see the beautiful cathedral that was erected in the 1500s. It offers a variety of museums, including the Art Museum Museo de Arte del Banco de la Republica and Gold Museum which contains the world’s most important collection of historic gold objects. For some fresh air can head to the Jardin Botanico de Bogotá.

El Dorado International Airport is one of the largest airports in Latin America and is about 12 km outside the city.
